
Samhitha Samskrita and Siddhanta
The department of Samhita Sanskrit and Siddhanta is one of the major department in the Ayurveda academy imparting training in the basic principles of Ayurveda to undergraduate and postgraduate students. Apart from Academic division, a publication division also functions under this department. The department is located in the main campus.
Scope of the department
Mission of the department is to provide knowledge in the basic concepts of Ayurveda and philosophy with their applied aspects. It is the only department that caters the academic needs of all the three professions of BAMS course. The department provides theoretical and practical training in the following subjects.

Post graduate studies were started in the year 1993 with a current intake of 8 students per year.
Academic Facilities
UG Training
The Undergraduate teaching and learning under the department includes lecture and non-lecture activities in the following subjects
- Working knowledge in the Sanskrit language which is essential for understanding the classical textbooks of Ayurveda.
- Introduction to Indian philosophies their ontology and epistemology
- Reading, Understanding, Comprehending, critically appraising and reflecting the basic principles of Ayurveda from ancient text books.
The department is well equipped with a library having a vast collection of rare and important books of Ayurveda, Indian philosophy and allied literature. The department also has a museum for the better understanding of concepts for students.
PG training
The Post graduate course was started in the year 1993 and the present intake is 8 seats. The post graduate training includes in depth subject learning and research. The post graduate research includes manuscript studies, textual studies, Indian medical history and re-validation of the basic principles of Ayurveda with inter disciplinary studies.
Publication Division
The department has a publication division with the intension of printing and publishing books related to the science of Ayurveda.
Patient Care Services
The Department ensures service to the public via special research OPD on every Wednesdays at Government Ayurveda Hospital Trivandrum. The UG students are provided early clinical exposure through this OPD as per NCISM curriculum. The PG students conducts research studies through this OPD. The department also conducts awareness classed to the public through print, visual and social media.
