Scope of the department
The scope of the Kriya Sharira department is to provide knowledge about the normal functions of living organisms based on Ayurvedic principles, along with their mechanisms and actions. The department plays a vital role in inspiring and motivating students to engage in basic human and lab experiments to enhance their understanding of physiology. Additionally, the department contributes to developing students' skills by organizing seminars, quiz competitions, role play, group discussions etc.
About the departmentUntil 1998, the department was known as "Sareera," which included both Rachana and Kriya as its branches. After 1998, with the departmentalization, the Kriya Sharira department was established as a separate entity. This independent status allowed the department to expand in terms of infrastructure and staff. The primary focus of the department is to explore and understand the fundamental functional and physiological aspects of the human body from both Ayurvedic and modern perspectives. It helps the students to understand the concept of dysfunctions, the basis of understanding the disease processes and the insight into disease management and prevention.
Facilities
Kriya Sharira department has good infrastructure with separate rooms for professor, Associate professor and Assistant professor as stipulated by NCISM. The total area of the department is 2,330 sq. ft. The department is equipped with a fully functional laboratory where undergraduate students can practice hematology, urine analysis and human experiments. Additionally, there is a separate seminar hall for conducting seminars for UG students. A department library, stocked with modern and Ayurveda-related books, is available to support students' self-study and research. To foster research mentality among students, the Physiology department implements a range of activities that encourage critical thinking, hands-on experience and intellectual curiosity. The Kriyasareera department implements a structured and comprehensive approach to help students to assess dosha-dhatu, prakriti, sara and agni aspects of patients in a hospital setting, as part of their preclinical training.
Patient care service
Kriya Sharira and Rachana Sharira departments handle the OP section alternately every saturdays. Kriya Sharira department also focus on prakriti assessment and life style modification. The department regularly organizes medical screening camps and health awareness programs, targeting both the general public and schools. These initiatives aim to provide essential health check-ups, raise awareness about various health issues, and promote preventive care in the community.
