Scope of the Department
-
To explore and interpret classical knowledge inscribed in treatises and carry out research activities in the field of clinical toxicology.

To provide better management for clinical manifestations of toxicological and related dermatological conditions arising from exposure to toxins and pollutants, allergies and post bite complications.

Making students competent enough to identify medico-legal aspects of general practice, define medico-legal responsibilities and respect the code of medical ethics.
About the Department
-
Department of Agadatantra Vyavahara Ayurveda and Vidhi Vaidyaka is an amalgamation of modern Departments like Toxicology, Dermatology and Forensic Medicine. We impart theory and practical knowledge to BAMS students, provides facilities and guidance for PG scholars.

Maintains an Animal House and serpentarium for PG research activities and public awareness.
Facilities
- Department functions as a single unit with daily OP from Monday to Saturday catering the needs of more than 15000 Out Patients and more than 400 In Patients per year.
- The Animal House and serpanterium run by the Department provide experimental animals and Venom for research purpose to other Universities and Institutions.
- A model herbal garden of medicinal plants which includes a variety of toxic and anti-toxic species is maintained by the Department within the campus.
- Forensic Museum attached to the Department showcases toxic and anti-toxic specimens of plant origin, venomous and non-venomous specimens of animal origin with toxicological significance, weapons, models and charts depicting medico-legal significance. The Museum encompasses a demonstration area deployed for undergraduate and post graduate practical classes.
- Department library includes separate reading hall with open access for all PG Scholars and a collection of more than 700 books including classical treatises, contemporary medical literature and Research materials.
Patient Care
- Out Patient services of the Department includes a daily OPD and two special OP for dermatological manifestations related to allergies, bites & stings of venomous and toxic insect origin, post-bite complications etc.
- A project funded by Ministry of AYUSH & Government of Kerala for the management of Psoriasis is being conducted since 2017.
- Inpatient care for acute and chronic skin manifestations, Psoriasis, Eczema, Alopecia, Non-healing ulcers etc. are delivered in accordance with the principles of Ayurveda and traditional visha chikitsa techniques.
Research
- As part of PG research activities in vitro, in vivo and clinical researches in the field of Agadatantra are conducted and dissertations submitted to the university under academic supervision.
- Department also aid research activities from other Universities by providing Venom samples and experimental animals.
